Unit 2 - Types of Explosives

In mining and construction, explosives are crucial for breaking rock and facilitating excavation. Common types include dynamite, ANFO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil), and emulsions.

Dynamite, a traditional choice, consists of nitroglycerin absorbed into a porous material. ANFO, a widely used industrial explosive, combines ammonium nitrate and fuel oil. Emulsions are stable mixtures of oxidisers and fuel, suitable for various mining conditions.

Proper handling and storage are essential due to their inherent dangers and sensitivity.
